So here I am now, after having written on this blog and several others for the last 8 months or so, and I realize that I need to tell you exactly why you need what these blogs are about. For starters, the idea of the blog is discussion and education surrounding snoring which can be hard to come by these days, but I do a rather good job if I dont say so myself. With that increase in discussion and education comes innovation from a variety of places, one of which are the companies that make the stop snoring devices I have spoken about at length here on this blog. Many of them have different names and make different product but at the end of the day most of them do the same thing, its just a matter of price and preference.

So why do you need a stop snoring device to truly achieve all of your stop snoring goals? Well for starters let me say that while it might be right from a doctors perspective to simply lose weight, drink less and sleep more how feasible are those three things? I know for me the way I sleep is the way I sleep, and the same goes for eating and drinking. That being said I think we can agree that it would be much easier to find something which does what we need it to do (keep us from snoring), that is cost effective, and offers results much faster than say weight loss. Now I am certainly not a sales man so I am not sure I convinced you with that pitch that you need a device but I think with just a little bit of research you can surely figure out what you are missing with not owning a stop snoring device. They are relatively inexpensive and offer some serious stop snoring solutions for those looking to take a serious stand against snoring. Dealing with Snoring

These days more than ever people are suffering from snoring for a variety of reasons ranging from obesity, to genetics, to poor sleeping habits. Unfortunately their is no tried and true way to pin point such information, but regardless of why people have been snoring as of late, the fact of the matter remains you can stop snoring if you try. The consensus amongst the people that I have spoken with in the past is that you will be able to stop snoring if you follow a two step process.

The first step in the stop snoring process is to ensure that you are not drinking alcohol before bed, you should try and lose a few pounds, and you should drink juice or water before bed. Not drinking juice or water can cause your mouth to become dry which could cause an increase in vibration, which would then cause snoring as we know it. In terms of losing some weight and not drinking alcohol before bed, the opposite of those suggestions is believed to cause snoring in many people. The second phase of this process is to purchase a stop snoring device. Stop snoring devices come in a variety of shapes and sizes, they also range in price from just a few dollars up to a few hundred dollars. Though when looking to purchase one my only advice would be “You get what you pay for” if you skimp out, you may get mixed results, whereas if you buy a proven product you may have better success. Its all up to you really, and I have no interest in swaying you one way or the other.

So now that you know the way to go about keeping yourself from snoring, and realize what type of snoring solutions are available to you. I would personally try out a variety of different things over time and do your own form of experimentation. What you find with your testing may be different from what I have found in mine, and what others have found in theirs. Up to this point this has not been an exact science and should not be treated as such.

A snorer that keeps you up in the bus on the way to work, or a coworker that dozes off in the middle of the 2 PM status meeting. Funny, right? Maybe, but not so much to the snorer….A persistent problem that won’t go away, that could interfere with your life, your friends and most importantly your significant other. Not to mention the embarrassment of social situations like the Boy Scouts campfire, or in the culmination of an otherwise successful first date. Looking around one would find as many remedies, tips and tricks, and devices as there are types of snorers. Not all of what you would find is credible though. Cures ranging from herbs, teas, and vodka have been touted in many cases, dubiously. If your snoring is on a manageable scale you could try some basic methods to ease the snoring. Sleeping flat, either without a pillow or a low flat one that does not elevate you head is one option. Some people have stopped snoring simple by changing sleeping positions. Sleeping on the side discourages snoring.

For the decidedly more complex cases, the market today has an assortment of stop snoring devices, advertized to help you stop snoring or at least quiet you down. There are nasal strips that lift the nasal cavity enough to let air through without tunneling it, thereby reducing the snoring. Similar devices prop the jaw open to ease the flow of air. Their are also braces, and special pillows (which are linked here) that aim to get you to stop snoring right away.

The option of surgeries, a path less traveled, for obvious reasons, is another possible way to go. Since most insurance companies classify these as elective or cosmetic, surgical remedies to help stop snoring are not very popular.

However stop snoring devices may not be enough for some snorers who may have tried different remedies and failed. Pinpointing the source of the snoring problem is probably the first, and most critical step you need to take for serious snoring. Loud snoring along with sluggishness, excessive weight, being tired even after a good night’s sleep, are indications of a much more serious condition. A sleep test will check for this condition quite easily. In such cases the snorer is not likely to respond to strips or clasps, and at times breath might seem to seize in their throats. If diagnosed with Sleep Apnea or related conditions the person is at risk for stroke or heart attacks, not to mention falling asleep while driving All is not lost however, there are devices to control and in many cases treat Sleep Apnea that a doctor will discuss with you. Unlike surgeries these are covered my most insurance plans.

The good news is that most cases of snoring can be and are resolved to a satisfactory level by making lifestyle changes, altering sleeping positions and exercise (to reduce excessive weight).

Anyone who has experienced a snoring partner in the bedroom will be delighted to discover that numerous natural stop snoring remedies are available. These however have not been proven to work as well as purchasing stop snoring devices however, but they may lessen snoring throughout the night.

There are numerous causes to snoring, a loud vibration that occurs whenever the airway is obstructed while sleeping. Since too much fat around the throat tissues can cause snoring, losing weight is often an effective snoring remedy, although not as quick to show results as other remedies such as changing sleep positions or pillows.

Using hypoallergenic bedding and pillows can help eliminate snoring problems, as many individuals sensitive to allergies may be affected by allergens lurking in their bedding that causes difficulty breathing.

Many snorers find that dilating the nasal passages using over the counter adhesive strips to hold open the air passages of the nose are inexpensive and effective snoring remedies. Yet others have had success after undergoing hypnotherapy, a behavioral therapy technique in which anti-snoring messages are given to the subconscious mind in order to stop the unwanted behavior.

A non natural and expensive but effective anti-snoring remedy is a mouthpiece custom fitted by a dentist which helps to pull the lower jaw and tongue forward while the individual is sleeping. This allows for more airspace in the throat and less obstruction of the airways while breathing. Causes of Snoring

What causes snoring? Before that question can be answered we need to know what snoring is. Snoring is the vibration of tissue in your throat, caused by air flow from your nose or mouth going to your lungs. You yourself might not realize that you snore but your bed partner might if it is loud enough. Snoring is not a gender specific occurrence, although it has been shown that more men than women do snore. Snoring can also be a short term occurrence caused by a temporary condition in someone’s life such a going to a party and consuming a little too much alcohol or having a cold or other illness. Snoring tends to get worse as a person ages.

When we breathe air flows through the nose or mouth to the lungs and when we are awake and sitting upright there is no noise just the sound of steady normal breathing. When we sleep and are in a prone position this sometimes causes the airway to narrow. When this happens the opening is smaller causing a greater amount of vibration which produces the sound of snoring.

Breathing through our nose is best because the nose acts as a heater, filter and humidifier for air that is entering our bodies. When breathing through the mouth the air is not filtered or warmed. Breathing through the nose is the way the body was intended to take in air because it does treat the air entering the body by removing dust and dirt particles, warming it and adding a bit of moisture to it.

Some people can not breathe through their noses due obstructions in the nasal passages such as a deviated septum. The septum is the thin wall of cartilage that separates the two air passages that are known to most as the nostrils. A deviation can be caused to the septum by the nose being broken or it did not form correctly to begin with causing an obstruction. Some other causes of obstructions can be due to colds or allergies causing tissue swelling and the nasal passages to become narrower. People with these problems are sometimes called mouth breathers. Breathing through the mouth allows a greater amount of air to be inhaled allowing a greater chance of vibration and snoring to occur.

Narrowed air ways can lead to snoring. The airway can become narrowed by the tonsils, when they become inflamed due to the body fighting infection. The soft palate may be too large or floppy causing the airway to become narrow. The uvula, is the flap of skin that hangs from the back of the throat at the soft palate, it may be abnormally long or thick making the airway narrower. If the tongue is large or slips back to obstruct the airway this too can cause snoring.

REM sleep is when most snoring can occur because the brain sends a message to all the muscles to relax except the breathing muscles. If you are sleeping on your back when this relaxation happens gravity also comes into play pulling the relaxed tongue, palate and throat downward causing the airway to narrow making snoring worse. So your sleep position can play into the snoring.

Alcohol and medication can enhance the relaxation of the muscles during sleep and once again narrowing the air passage and creating the vibrations that causes snoring.

Snoring can also be a sign of a condition called Sleep Apnea or another sleeping disorder. The snoring may need to be evaluated to make sure that this is not the case.
